Abstract

The invention relates to a loading appliance adapted to be suspended from the mast of a crane for gathering long pieces of wood such as tree trunks, and for loading them. The loading appliance is characterised by the fact that it comprises a chassis element 1 forming a fixed arm, a movable arm 5 which can move away from the fixed arm for discharging, a retractable retaining bar 9 which retracts when the wood is being picked up and then holds the wood inside the appliance by assuming its initial position again, and a supplementary movable arm 12 which is able to push the wood towards the inside of the appliance in a gathering movement, and to retract above a piece of wood situated on the ground in a reverse movement. <IMAGE>
