Abstract

A support arm 12 carrying at its tip a transducer 11 for use with a multiple flexible-disc file is smooth, flat and tapered towards its tip, the side and front edges of the tapered portion being sharp to facilitate entry of the arm between discs in the stack. The side and front edges of the tapered portion can have a tapered, convex or hollow ground profile. The arm may be about 0.25 cm thick and have voids 68, 71, 72 in its central portion to reduce its mass, the otherwise void central portion of the arm being formed with a T-bar 67 to strengthen it. The taper of the arm is said to cause the arm to be automatically ejected from the disk file if the disk file inadvertently closes. <IMAGE>
