Abstract

A lance for making additions to a bath of molten metal comprises a delivery port (0) at one end of the lance, a passage (42) for additions extending longitudinally of the lance from the delivery port (O) to the other end of the lance, means to connect the passage (42) to a reservoir (13) containing the additions and means (68) to connect the passage (42) to a supply fluid under pressure. The lance comprises a central tube (14) on which a number of refractory sleeves (15) are assembled with a basing means (28) providing an end load to the assembly of sleeves. <IMAGE>
