Abstract

A device for measuring an amount of movement of a moving object comprises sensor means comprising at least a moving object R and at least one pair of stationary members S1, S2 which are confronted with said moving object thereby forming at least one pair of differential capacitors therebetween, the confronting surfaces of said moving object and stationary members having graduations with the same pitch, the graduations of said stationary members being different by 180 DEG in phase from each other with respect to the graduations of said moving object; a pair of oscillators coupled to said capacitors formed in said sensor means; and a mixer for providing a difference frequency signal between the outputs of said oscillators; whereby a signal is provided of which the frequency is increased and decreased alternatively whenever said moving object makes a predetermined amount of movement with respect to said stationary members. <IMAGE>
