Abstract

A method of ballasting an article, e.g. the keel of a sailing boat, which comprises mixing together in predetermined proportions according to the required density of ballast a liquid binder such as a resin, e.g. an epoxide resin, cement or bitumen and metal particles of which are least some are spherical and which may comprise two or more quantities of different sizes in predetermined proportions according to the required ballast density, thereby to form a homogeneous mixture, casting the mixture, e.g. pouring it into a cavity in a keel, and allowing the binder to set thereby to form a ballasting mass. The invention also provides a combination of a predetermined quantity of metal particles and a predetermined quantity of binder for use in ballasting an article.
