Abstract

201,988. Carter, M. May 2, 1922. Centrifugal governors.-In governors of the type in which the weights are acted on by cantilever springs, the effective length of the springs is adjustable during running by means of sliding contacts. The springs F, Fig. 1, which may be single or multiple are separated by a plate P, and are, attached to a crossbar F<4> in a casing A on a spindle B<1>. The weights W are acted on or attached to the springs F, and are connected by links L to the sleeve S. The effective length of the springs is varied by means of rollers R in a carrier R<1>, adjustable by means of a rod working in gaps in the upper halves of the springs F and plate P. In a modification, the springs F are attached to the spindle B<1>, which passes through the casing A. The carrier R<1> carries a pin working in a slot in the spindle B<1> and operated by a rod in the hollow interior of the spindle. Each weight W may be arranged between a pair of springs, each spring being adjustable by a separate roller. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the weights W are carried by links L<2> attached to the spindle B<1>, and are connected by links L<3> to the sleeve, S. The springs F act on rollers L<4> on the weights. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 7174/00, 16741/02, and 22721/14.
