Abstract

A procedure and kit for assay of Gram-negative bacteria in biological fluids by lysing cells in the fluid at pH 6 to 8, removing cellular debris, sedimenting microorganisms from the liquid phase at 5,000 G or more, incubating the microorganisms with Limulus polyphemus amebocyte lysate in aqueous medium, and measuring the amount of resultant turbidity.
