Abstract
A heat exchanger particularly for use with dialysis units, consists of an assembly of heat exchange plates such as 2, 5 (e.g. of stainless steel) and intervening spacer layers 3, 4 (e.g. of resilient plastics material) each spacer layer defining with the adjacent plates a fluid flow path, alternate said flow paths being interconnected for the flow therethrough of a first fluid in heat exchange with a second fluid flowing in the intermediate flow paths in a relatively counterflow direction to that of the first fluid. Each spacer layer defines (with adjacent plates) a relatively long flow passage (e.g. 6 or 8) for the one fluid and also a short cross over passage (e.g. 9) cooperating with corresponding apertures such as 13 and 15 in the plates, for the other fluid. <IMAGE>
