Abstract

Broken heads or hooks of needles of a knitting machine are detected by presenting a needle sensing element to successive needles, the timing of the presentation being effected by adjacent parts of the needle or of a neighbouring needle or needles. The detection of a broken head or hook may activate a stop motion. A rotary support 1 can have a plurality of sensing elements 6 and be driven by parts 22 meshing with the needle heads. <IMAGE>
