Abstract
A portable clock comprises a superhetrodyne receiver 10 for receiving and detecting a transmitted time signal (such as the 60 kHz MSF slow-code signal) and a pre-settable digital clock 14 driving a display 15. Time and date decoders 12 and 13 decode the detected signal for pre- setting the clock 14 to accord with the transmitted time signal. A single crystal-controlled oscillator 11 supplies a timing reference to the decoders 12 and 13, and serves as a time-base for the pre-settable clock. Moreover, the oscillator 11 serves as the local oscillator for mixing with the receive r.f. signal in the superhetrodyne receiver 10. An error-detecting circuit (Fig 3 not shown) may serve to check that there is a minimum period of substantially no carrier of the received time signal every second, but in the absence of such a minimum period presetting is inhibited. The crystal- controlled oscillator 11 may also serve as a timing reference for such an error-detecting circuit. <IMAGE>
