Abstract
A device for applying dye to continuously-moving carpet webs, wherein the dye is removed from a dye container 17 by a roll 10 dipping into the dye, the dye picked up by the roll being directed on to the web by a doctor 11 wiping the dye on the roll surface, is modified in that the roll surface is grooved. The grooving may be tooth-shaped and the roll may be assembled from parts each comprising one tooth 13. There is preferably disposed at each roll tooth a dish-shaped doctor 14 embracing the roll tooth, the dye being discharged through hoses 16. Separate dye containers can be used in association with each roll tooth or with each group of a plurality of adjacent roll teeth, to provide multi-colour dyeing. <IMAGE>
