Abstract

An apparatus for coalescing one liquid dispersed in another comprises a layer of fibres normally held under pressure between walls 3 and 4 provided with openings, and said walls are periodically displaced relative to each other, to allow the fibres to straighten out when they are washed to remove solid contaminants. The fibres are secured to wall 3 at one end. Fibres may be polypropylene or glass. Valves 6, 9, 10, 12 control inlet/ outlet of liquid mixture being treated and of washing liquid. <IMAGE>
