Abstract

A tube (24) perforated with spaced nozzle openings (25) facing the yarn guide and loop-forming elements of a knitting machine, such as a circular knitting machine, or elements of a loom and supplied with compressed air so as to blow away dirt and lint that tends to collect at the sensitive locations, is mounted for movement back-and- forth and, also, up-and-down, and driven in reciprocating motion, so that relatively few nozzle openings serve for air cleaning for all of the loop-forming needles and the year guides without dead spots in which accumulation will form. For reducing the compressed air requirements, compressed air is only intermittently supplied. The reciprocating motion is likewise intermittent and the compressed air supply intervals occur only when the nozzle tube is in motion.
