Abstract

The invention provides novel organozirconium (III) complexes having the formula: (i) [Zr( eta -C5H4R<1>)2(N)2(R)] (A> wherein the substituent R<1> is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R is the group [(CH3)3Si]2CH-, (ii) [Zr{( eta -C5H4R<1>)2R}2N2] (B> wherein R<1> and R are as defined in (A) and (iii) [Zr( eta -C5H4R<2>)2R] D wherein the substituted R<2> is an H atom or a CH3-, C2H5-, iso-C3H7-, tert-C4H9- or (CH3)3Si-group and R is the group [(CH3)3Si]2CH-. The complexes are produced by reduction of the compound: [Zr( eta -C5H4Y)2(R)(X)] (C> wherein Y is R<1> in the formula (A) or R<2> in the formula (D). Complex (D) is particularly useful as a powerful reducing agent and reaction of complex (A) with aqueous acid produces hydrazine and ammonia.
