Abstract

In a bruting or coning machine, two stones D1 and D2 are rotated in the same sense, but at slightly different speeds, and are reciprocated relative to each other while they are moved towards one another to provide feed. A stroboscope can be synchronized with the rotation of one of the stones so that the other stone can be examined as it appears to rotate slowly, and more generally the stroboscope can be used to examine any pair of stones which are grinding one another at slightly different speeds of rotation. <IMAGE>
