Abstract

An arrangement for securing a lens blank to a support block to permit mounting and grinding in a lathe comprises positioning the lens blank 10 on the rim 2 of a support block 1, which may include a O-ring 5 to achieve a better seal, holding the lens between the jaws 12 and 13 of a clamp and introducing molten microwax 3 through apertures 11 to completely fill the space and allowing the wax to solidify. A rubber plug 8 may be removed to permit access to the lens surface 9 for measurement. A channel 14 allows the wax to key to the block. The lens can be removed by gently warming until it frees from the wax. <IMAGE>
