Abstract

Control apparatus for providing an output signal which is responsive to a predetermined relationship between a flat and a second parameter and which is suitable for controlling the power output of a power supply, e.g. by means of a triac 32, has two sensors 1, 3 for sensing the respective parameters and means such as a bridge circuit for providing a signal representative of a predetermined relationship between the parameters, this signal and a set-point means being connected to the inputs of a comparator 11 which provides the output signal used to control the power output of the power supply and thus, for example, a space heating or refrigerating installation. In its application to a central heating installation, an infra-red radiation sensor 1 and an air temperature sensor 3 are each in the form of a thermistor coated respectively with matt-black paint and gloss white paint. The mark-to-space ratio of the output signal 13 from a general purpose timer/oscillator 12 varies according to the departure of the prevailing temperature conditions from the set-point and is used to control the period of time during which a pump unit for circulating water through the radiators of the installation operates, or to control the heating fuel supply by means of a valve. <IMAGE>
