Abstract
A turbine for transverse fluid flow therethrough comprises symmetrical aerofoil blades 2 in a cylindrical formation. The blades are pivotable about their aerodynamic centres 4, and each blade is constrained to pivot by a link 5 extending in line with the chord of the blade to present the leading edge of the blade at the optimum attack angle to the direction of fluid flow Vd through the turbine. Each link is controlled by a respective swivel member 6 to which the link is slidably connected, and the swivel members are arranged to rotate at the same speed as the blades and in a circular formation about an axial centre B eccentric to and parallel to the turbine axis A. <IMAGE>
