Abstract
The unit comprises a rotor 1 with turbine blading 7 extending radially to define combustion passages. Inner and outer casing segments 9, 6 respectively define inlet ports and exhaust ports for the combustion passages. Fuel supplied at 16 burns within the enclosed spaces of the combustion passages, with air supplied by axial or centrifugal compressor 3, the burnt gases being expelled under pressure through the exhaust ports to provide a hot gas stream, for example, to rotate a turbine, or other blading, or for use as a heat source in a boiler, or as a propulsive stream. Notches on the inner surface of the outer casing 6 act as combustion stabilizers. The turbine blading 7 is shaped to impart a swirl to the exhaust gases to rotate the rotor. <IMAGE>
