Abstract

A method of marking on a hot material 10 and an apparatus therefor wherein a, combustible and flexible stencil 20 is used, water is first sprayed on the end face of the hot material to decrease its surface temperature and thereafter, the stencil is brought close to the end face of the hot material by holders 16, and the marking composition is sprayed from behind the stencil to bring the stencil into close contact with the end face of the hot material for clear marking by utilizing the flexibility of the stencil. Clear marking takes place, therefore, in the period before the surface temperature rises sufficiently to consume the stencil. <IMAGE>
