Abstract

In a pipe joint in which a pipe spigot is received in a socket 2, an elastomeric sealing ring 1 is retained by a groove 3 in which it engages. The sealing ring has the form of a V in axial section, the two arms of the V being provided by annularly continuous sealing lips 10, 11 which diverge from their junction away from the axis of the pipe joint to engage the internal wall of the socket 2. A radially inwardly presented zone 12 of the ring, at the junction of the two lips engages the outer surface of the pipe spigot when inserted, the lips 10, 11 being free to spread apart in the axial direction as the inner zone of the ring is expanded outwardly by insertion of the spigot. <IMAGE>
