Abstract
Certain disadvantages of using sodium or potassium silicate as binder for granular and/or fibrous material can be overcome by adding a surface-active substance to the moulding material. The additions furthermore make it possible to reduce the amount of added alkali silicate compared with the amount heretofore usually added, without decreasing the strength of the mould or core when this constitutes the body formed from the moulding material. The surface active substance may be a surfactant or silicone.
