Abstract

An engine or, as shown, heat pump has a reciprocatory compressor 44 and a displacer 51 operative upon a working fluid, a rotatable shaft 42, and drive means to effect translation of the rotational movement of the rotatable shaft to the compressor and displacer, the drive means comprising twin annular undulatory cam tracks 47, 48 on the shaft, engaged by twin rollers 49, 50 carried by the compressor piston 46, and grooves 55, 56 on the shaft engaged by rollers 57, 58 carried by a member 54 fast with the displacer piston 51. To dynamically balance the piston 46, a balance weight assembly 59 is provided. One or both sets of grooves may be formed on the pistons, and the rollers carried by the shaft. <IMAGE>
