Abstract

Building bricks manufactured by moulding from clay material and baking are provided with projections 2 and recesses for mechanically interlocking the bricks, apertures 4 for thermal insulation and apertures 5, 11 for accommodating service conductors, such as electric cables and water pipes which are installed after a building has been erected. Some of the bricks have lateral openings which provide access to the conductor carrying apertures 5 and may receive service elements such as electric switches or sockets. Vertical passages may be provided through some bricks for vertically extending service conductors. The bricks may have a surface coating applied to the bricks separately, e.g. a glazed finish, and are preferably affixed together by a thin layer of adhesive. Snap-on cover plates can provide easy access to the apertures for installation and maintenance of services. <IMAGE>
