Abstract

A hot-melt adhesive is provided which comprises a self-curing unsaturated polyester resin having one or more air-drying functional groups and an average polymerisation degree of 8 or more, the adhesive being capable of simultaneously bonding and curing under heat and pressure. An "air-drying functional group" is one which is capable of suppressing polymerisation inhibition of the resin by atmospheric oxygen and/or of advancing autoxidation with atmospheric oxygen. Typical air-drying functional groups are unsaturated groups or groups having active methylene or methine groups. The invention includes a method of bonding adherends by applying heat and pressure to such a hot-melt adhesive while in contact with the surfaces to be bonded.
