Abstract

A tool particularly for opening bottles and such like comprises a housing (14) defining a recess (16) for insertion of a bottle cap and a lever handle pivoted to the housing and having a gripping portion (28) which moves progressively across the cross-section of the recess (16) in response to pivoting of the lever handle (10). In use, the bottle cap is gripped clamp-wise between the portion (28) and the opposite side wall portion of the recess (16) and the effort applied in pivoting the lever handle then becomes effective to apply a torque to the bottle cap to overcome the resistance to unscrewing. <IMAGE>
