Abstract

A metering pump for a molten metal or metal alloy, e.g. for supplying lead alloy to a battery plate grid casting machine, includes inlet and outlet valves 15, 16 respectively communicating with a chamber 12 and means 28, 29 for drawing a predetermined quantity of molten metal or metal alloy through the inlet valve 15 into the chamber 12 and then expelling the molten metal or alloy through the outlet valve 16. Each valve 15, 16 includes a movable valve member 17 for regulating the flow of molten metal or metal alloy through an orifice of the valve, and an elongated operating rod 22 integral with or welded at one end to the valve member 17. The cross-sectional dimensions of the end of the rod 22 connected to the valve member 17 are less than the corresponding dimensions of the adjacent region of the valve member 17 and the peripheral edge of said end of the operating rod 22 lies within the peripheral edge of the adjacent region of the valve member 17. The other end of each operating rod 22 is connected to actuating means 24, 25 for imparting movement to the valve member 17. <IMAGE>
