Abstract

A safety buckle assembly for a helmet such as a motorcyclists crash helmet, having a pin (1) with a conical outer end (11) and a peripheral intermediate groove (12) for fixed attachment at its other end to a helmet (C). A buckle (2) is provided, having a body member (3) slidably housing a push button (15). The buckle (2) is releasably attached to a chin strap (7) and is releasably attached to the helmet pin (1) by introducing the conical end (11) of the pin (1) through an aperture (10) in the body member (3) so that it rides over a pin (19) transversely housed in the push button against the biassing action of springs (21) connected between the body member (3) and the push button (15). The springs (21) then return the pin (19) into the groove 12 to lock the buckle (2) to the pin (1) from which it can be released by movement of the button (15) against the springs 21 to displace the pin (19) clear of the groove (12) and the pin end (11). <IMAGE>
