Abstract
The compounds of the formula (II): <IMAGE> wherein R1 is hydrogen or a C1-4 alkyl group and CO2R2 is a carboxyl group or a salted or esterified carboxyl group, are beta -lactamase inhibitors, which may be formulated in pharmaceutical compositions. The compounds may be prepared by the reaction of the compound (I): <IMAGE> with a compound (VI): CH2 = CR1CO2R3 wherein R1 is as defined above and CO2R3 is an esterified carboxyl group and, if desired, converting the resultant ester to the free acid or a salt or alternative ester.
