Abstract

An insulated housing (1) for use in rearing pigs from weaning to slaughter age is divided by partition walls (8) into a number of separate rooms (9 to 12) for pigs of different age groups. Each room is provided with its own independent environment control system, and has a pig confine (25,26, 41) mounted over a drainable slurry pit, the confine having an open-work floor (27, 42) whereby excreta from the pigs can fall through the floor into the slurry pit. In each room the pig confine is separated by a feeding trough (29, 44) and a barrier from a narrow passageway (19, 38). In addition, the partition walls (8) between the separate rooms each contain a door (49) to allow pigs to move directly from one room to the next. <IMAGE>
