Abstract
An optical detector comprises a first optical system (1,2,3,4) defining an optical path and arranged to transmit infra red electromagnetic radiation (9) from a modulated light emitting diode 1 to a focus 8'; a second optical system (5,6,7) defining an optical path parallel to said optical path of said first optical system and arranged to direct electro- magnetic radiation (10) after reflection by an object when at position 8' on to a phototransistor 7; and a converging lens (8) associated in common with said first and second optical systems and arranged such that said optical paths of said first and second optical systems are parallel to and symmetrical about the axis of said converging lens on one side thereof. In the same housing in a plane perpendicular to the optical systems, two projectors are provided for setting up the apparatus by superimposition of images at 8'. Circuitry is detailed in Fig. 5 (not shown). Other applications for the apparatus are suggested. <IMAGE>
