Abstract

A method is described of treating foundry sand by thoroughly mixing a compatible release agent into the sand prior to the forming of moulds or cores from the sand. The release agent may be a silicone, a stearate or a wax and may be introduced either alone or in combination with a binder or with a component of a binder system. The treatment enables the mould or core to be released readily from a pattern or box used in its formation.
