Abstract

An apparatus for at least partially closing a concrete mixer drum inlet, having a flap portion 256 adapted to be movable from a closed position to an open position, and being pivotally mounted 259 to the concrete mixer 252. An actuator 282 is also provided, which may be a hydraulic ram, for moving the flap portion from the drum inlet closed position to the open position. The flap portion changes from a substantially planar configuration to a non-planar configuration during movement from the closed position to the open position, and may return to a planar configuration when closed again. The flap may have an upper section 258, which may be at least one arm, and a lower section 260, which may be a sheet material, and both sections may be hingedly connected to each other. The flap may be made of a flexible material that can form a seal against the drum during rotation, and a greasing mechanism may further be provided to maintain the life of the seal. Particular uses may include cement trucks.
