Abstract

An ice auger (104) is used in an extruder (20) of ice making apparatus including means for producing and harvesting a flake ice product and transferring said product to the ice extruder in which the product is compressed into a hard column of ice that can be broken by a breaker (124) into ice chunks for transport to a dispenser. The auger which has a frusto-conical body is cantilever supported in an extruder chamber (72) which has a cylindrical portion (92) and a frusto-conical portion (94) and is provided with a helical blade which has spaced peripheral notches (118) in the cylindrical chamber portion (92). <IMAGE>
