Abstract
The spout 3 of a melt pouring vessel extends into the groove 2 of a casting wheel adjacent to the inlet of the mould and bears on the groove through a seal 6 of refractory fibrous material. The seal 6 does not extend to the end of the spout but leaves a gap 10 into which melt flows. In the region of the gap the external surface of the spout is provided with a recess 11. In use melt flows into the gap 10 and recess 11 and partly solidifies to form between the spout and the wheel an additional seal which is held fixed relative to the spout by engagement of the solidified metal in the recess 11. <IMAGE>
