Abstract

A low friction syringe, comprising a barrel 12, a plunger 14 having its distal end received in the barrel and a plug 16 of elastic material having a body portion secured to the distal end of the plunger. The plug has front and rear annular flanges 36, 42, each having an annular lip 38, 44 lightly contacting the inner surface of the barrel and an annular hinge portion 40, 46 disposed between the body portion and the lip which permits flexure of the flange in response to differential pressures between a cavity 48 between the flanges and either the interior of the barrel or the atmosphere. The flanges also permit free movement of the plug in the barrel with relatively low friction between the plug and barrel. <IMAGE>
