Abstract

An escape window device 10 for a vehicle, comprising an escape window 16 which is pivotable relative to a structure of the vehicle between a closed position covering a corresponding window opening 14 of the vehicle and an escape position uncovering the window opening 14. The escape window 16 is held at least one step tread element 38, through which at least in the escape position a step tread 40 is providable for a person leaving the vehicle via the window opening 14. Preferably the step tread element 38 is shiftable relative to escape window 16 between use and non-use positions and a locking device may be provided which locks the escape window 16 in the closed position and may be coupled with the step tread 38. Moving the step tread from the non-use position to the use position may release the locking device and allow the escape window to pivot.
