Abstract

A scaffolding coupling sleeve suitable for connecting two scaffolding tubes 22, 23 in a coaxial relationship comprises a pre-formed plate 10 which partially encircles the end regions of the two tubes. The sleeve comprises clamping nuts and bolts 19,16 to clamp the sleeve to the two tubes. The sleeve includes a safety device 25 in the form of a further bolt (27, Fig 3) threaded into the sleeve to extend radially of a clamped tube end portion 23. The advantage of the invention is that with the safety device 25 tightened, the sleeve clamping bolts 16 can be released, whilst the coupling sleeve remains safely secured to one of the tube end portions which reduces the risk of falling scaffolding components affecting operatives working nearby.
