Abstract

A desiccant-based dehumidifier (2, fig 2a) for mounting on a road-going vehicle supplies dehumidified air to a cargo storage compartment (e.g. a tanker), and uses the vehicles battery as a sole power source. The dehumidifier can be in a double-skinned housing 4 with base 6, lid 8, intake channel 30, a filter 34 and an inclined intake baffle 32; powered by an inverter (50, fig 8); operate intermittently when the vehicleâ s engine runs, or from an electrical mains supply (56, fig 9). The filter 34 may be back-washed by water. A relay (R2, figs 8 & 9) protects the battery from discharge beyond a specified level. Condensation (e.g. during discharge) and cleaning is reduced.
