Abstract

An electrical capacitor provided with an excess internal pressure safety device (particularly an electrolytic capacitor) comprises a capacitor body (1) installed in a cup-shaped metal housing (2) having an open end closed by an end plate (4) formed by a disc (8) of insulating material covered on its inner face with a layer (9) of an elastic material, e.g. rubber. Sealing of the housing is effected by forcing the rubber layer (9) against in internal peripheral ridge (10) on the inner wall of the housing by turning-in the open end of the housing to form a flange 11 which presses against the outer face of the plate 4. The excess internal pressure safety device is provided by at least one recess (12) formed in the outerface of the plate (4) at its periphery, the recess (12) only being partially covered by the flange (11), and the depth of the recess (12) being such as to leave a residual portion of the disc (8) of reduced thickness between the bottom of the recess (12) and the layer (9). <IMAGE>
