Abstract

The rolls of a mill are bent, in response to measurement of the tension distribution errors the width of a rolled strip (or foil) in a sense to equalize the distribution. Additionally, the rolls are differentially cooled by an array of adjustable liquid jets arranged longitudinally of the rolls. The jets are controlled so that the degree of bending required to equalize the tension distribution is reduced. <IMAGE>
