Abstract

A method for identifying wellbore volume change involves drilling a wellbore and processing a plurality of axially spaced subsurface annular pressure measurements 36, 38 to compute a plurality of interval densities; monitoring the interval densities with time and evaluating a change in one of the interval densities and a substantially different flow rate as an indicator of the wellbore volume change.
