Abstract

A launch system for a freefall lifeboat 1 facilitates adjustments of its respective x, y or z axis to attempt to ensure an appropriate orientation for deployment. Principally intended for the deployment of freefall lifeboats 1, the invention also applies to the deployment of other shipboard assets, the deployment method need not necessarily be freefall. The system incorporates monitoring means 9 that indicate whether the freefall lifeboat is in a suitable orientation for launch from a platform 7 and adjustment means that are adapted to adjust the position of the freefall lifeboat into a suitable orientation if the monitoring means indicates that it is not in a suitable orientation. A method for use of the system is also disclosed.
