Abstract

A display apparatus 10 for displaying an image to an observer overlaid on a real world scene 24 includes a first and second optical elements 12, 14 having reflective regions, a display source 18 to generate image bearing light 20 wherein the optical elements 12, 14 oppose to one another and transmit the image bearing light 20 from the display source 18 to a position where the image bearing light 20 is viewable by an observer overlaid on a real world scene 24 observed through at least a portion of the second optical element 14. The apparatus 10 may take the form of a HMD or head mounted display or helmet.
