Abstract

A massage or surgical table has an elongate table-top that includes a removable laterally-extending section which reveals a gap which is spanned by a sling for affording support to the patient's anatomy. The removable laterally-extending section 6 may be positioned in the chest-region of a patient lying face down on the table. Removal of the removable section 6 reveals a gap 13 which is spanned by a partly-elasticated sling 14 for affording support to the patient's breasts. The sling 14 spans the gap 13 laterally of the table but may be replaced by two partly-elasticated slings that extend lengthwise of the table for affording support to respective ones of the breasts. As an alternative, or in addition, especially for a pregnant patient, removal of a corresponding laterally-extending section (15) in the region of the patient's stomach, reveals a laterally-extending sling for affording stomach support.
