Abstract
A physico-electrochemical reactor assembly for treating fluids comprising: a pump 7 to enable flow of fluid through a reactor 1; a venturi 12 to introduce media into the feed fluid stream; means for mixing the media with the fluid in a mixing zone 31; and an electrode assembly (33) comprising a multiplicity of electrodes for generating reactive treatment reagents from the fluid and electrode material in-situ when a voltage is applied to the electrode assembly, where a wet abrasive blasting process removes fouling and passivation from the electrode assembly. Preferably, the electrode assembly comprises a multiplicity of concentric, parallel electrode tubes. Preferably, the media is added to a contaminated fluid and electrified in a treatment zone 1, coagulated in a coagulation zone 2, flocculated in a flocculation zone 3, and clarified in a clarification zone 4. Also claimed is a method of treating a fluid comprising: providing the physico-electrochemical reactor 1 and a coagulation unit 2, flocculation unit 3, clarifier unit 4, and sludge separation unit 5.
