Abstract

A solar collector 2 is associated with or incorporated in a heat source 4, such as a concrete slab, and powers an organic Rankine cycle heat engine. Preferably, the working fluid 10 can be heated by a second heat source 29 (e.g. a burner), derived from biomass or waste incineration for example, after the heat sink 4 has cooled down, to allow continuous operation at night or during periods of low sun.
