Abstract
Perfluoroalkyl compounds containing ether groups have the formula RfR1SCH2CH2OTZ wherein Rf is perfluoroalkyl optionally substituted by C2-6 perfluoroalkoxy, R1 is alkylene, alkyleneoxy, -thio- or aminoalkylene, T is C1-18 alkylene or phenylene, and Z is hydrogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, acyl, carbamyl, -O- CH2CH2SR1Rf, -NR3R4, where R3 and R4 each is C1-22 alkyl or together with nitrogen form a heterocyclic ring; <IMAGE> where R5 is hydrogen, oxygen, C1-22 alkyl, or substituted C1-22 alkyl, X is an anion, and y is 1 or 2; z is 0 or 1. They can be prepared directly by free- radical catalyzed addition of a perfluoroalkyl-thiol to a vinyl ether or subsequent reaction. These compounds are useful as surfactants and oil spill collecting agents.
