Abstract

A liquid crystal mixture having a twisted nematic phase consists of a first compound of the formula (1) or (2> <IMAGE> in which R<1> is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 C atoms in a virtually straight chain, R<2> is an alkyl or alkoxy group having 1 to 10 C atoms in a virtually straight chain and m is 2 or 3, a second compound of the formula (3> <IMAGE> in which R<3> is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 C atoms in a virtually straight chain and n is 1 or 2; and at least one further, different, compound according to formula (1), (2) or (3). The mixture has a positive DELTA epsilon value, a DELTA n value of generally at least 0.2, is chemically stable and nematically liquid-crystalline at least from zero to 65 DEG C and is suitable for commercial LC displays having a twisted nematic phase.
