Abstract

Melt spinning of a non-round polyester filament of denier at least 10 by extruding molten polymer through adjacent orifices 20 and 24 spaced such that the extruded streams merge prior to solidification, and withdrawing the resulting composite stream at at least 4000 meter per minute, preferably at least 4500 mpm. Preferably at least one of the orifices is in the form of a helix. More preferably there are first and second orifices in the form of helices of opposite hand. <IMAGE>
